OCTOBER SMALL BUSINESSS WORKSHOPS AT CLC

        During October, entrepreneurs and small business owners can select from five workshops offered by the Illinois Small Business Development Center at the College of Lake County. Four courses are offered in English and one course is offered in Spanish.

        Learn how to grow your business strategically and soundly by enrolling in Basic Recordkeeping for Small Business offered from 6:30–9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1 and 8 at the Grayslake campus (cost $60); Smart Start to Your Small Business, offered from 6:30–9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct.  2 at the CLC Southlake Campus (cost $35); Comenzar un Negocio en Illinois (Starting a Business in Illinois) offered from 6:30–8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Grayslake campus (cost $20); Entrepreneurship – Is Franchised Business Ownership Right For You from 6:30–8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the Grayslake campus (cost $30); and Business Entity and Investment Considerations For Small Business from 6:30–8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Southlake Campus (cost $30).

        The Illinois Small Business Development Center offers many services to help your business grow and succeed.  Free one-on-one business counseling, planning and strategizing along with a variety of workshops for small business: start-up and business planning, marketing/sales/public relations, legalities of business ownership, accounting and finance, and commerce and technology. SECURITY OFFICER AND COMMUNITY SERVICE
OFFICER TRAINING COURSES OFFERED AT CLC

        Prepare for a career as a security officer or community service officer by enrolling in courses offered by the Continuing Professional Development department at the College of Lake County.

        The Community Service Officer course prepares students for a non-sworn position in a police department. The course is being offered on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 4 to Nov. 1. The CLC course number is PCJI 1-001, the cost is $299 and individuals must meet law enforcement agency criteria.

        The Security Officer Basic Training course prepares students to be an unarmed security guard. The course is being offered Oct. 6-9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (PPSI 5-001) or Nov. 3-6 from 4-9 p.m. (PPSI 5-002). The cost is $150.

        Further your training with the Security Officer Firearm Training course. Two sessions are being offered Dec. 1-4, either 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 4-9 p.m. The course number is PPSI 6-001 and the cost is $199. All courses are offered at the Grayslake Campus.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVERS TRAINING AT CLC

        Now is the time to register for one of the hospitality courses available through the Continuing Professional Development department at the College of Lake County (CLC).   During the fall semester, Beverage and Alcohol Sellers and Servers Educational Training (BASSET) and Food Safety Refresher Course will be offered in both English and Spanish.

There are three sessions of BASSET conducted in English (PHOS 1) and one session in Spanish (PHOS 2), with the first class in English on Monday, Oct. from 6-10 p.m. Remaining classes offered in English are Saturday, Nov. 1 and Monday, Dec. 1. 

The Spanish BASSET class is on Monday, Nov. 3.  All Monday classes are from 6-10 p.m., and all Saturday classes are from 8 a.m. to noon. This four-hour class is certified by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission and the cost for the class is $40. All BASSET classes are offered at the Grayslake campus.

Also offered this fall is the Food Safety Refresher Course for certified food service sanitation managers seeking renewal for their five-year Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification (FSSMC). There are two classes being offered in English (PHOS 3) – Friday, Oct. 10 at the Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills, and Friday, Dec. 5 at the Lakeshore Campus, with both classes held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This class is also taught in Spanish (PHOS 4) on Friday, Nov. 7 from 4-10 p.m. at the Lakeshore Campus. The cost for the class is $55. Classes are held at the CLC Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St., the Southlake Campus (1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills) and the Lakeshore Campus (33 N. Genesee St., Waukegan).

PROJECT MANAGEMENT COURSES OFFERED AT CLC

        Do you struggle with delivering projects on time and within budget? Would you like to learn how to deliver projects more reliably? The Workforce and Professional Development Institute at the College of Lake County offers Project Management Training to help you meet your goals.

        The Essentials of Project Management workshop is a two-day, hands-on session and will give you practical insights on how to deliver your projects consistently. The course is being offered on Oct. 7 and 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the CLC Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills. It is led by a certified Project Management Professional, costs $399 and qualifies for 15 PDUs toward the Project Management Professional certification (PMP).

        Introduction to Microsoft Project will prepare you to use this valuable software program to improve your project management skills. The course is being offered on Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Southlake Campus. The cost is $179, including a textbook.

        Further your knowledge of Microsoft Project with Advanced Microsoft Project. This workshop is being offered on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Southlake Campus. The cost is $179 and the textbook is included.
